When we first came to the forest we decided to build a monument. This was to be our house but we changed our plans and gave the house to the community that was slowly growing around us. It is now our community house and we are very proud of it!
We build the Monument with our bare hands- and with the indespensable help from our DEAR neighbour mister Capitan Jo- who is an experienced builder of log cabins.
This is what we did
We cleared the ground. Cut down trees in the forest. Our landlord transported the logs to our place in his forestmachine and then we began to build.
Between the logs we insulated with moss, the floor is insulated with moss, bark and whatever material we had around (natural material) The under-roof is made out of small trees (it was the hardest job in the world to collect these!) and the roof will later be covered with shake. We will install a wood cookstove in the house too.
This project started out as a family project and it has been an amazing experience to have done this with four children.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and let me know if there is anything you would like me to elaborate upon.

Hello Andrea and family! It has been interesting to follow your live in the woods, and I admire you for doing it. I know what it take to live in a primitive way, but I also know the result you get, a result that will follow you the rest of your lives whereever you go.
I wish you all the best
Jytte
Thank you so much Jytte!!
